Scar Removal/Scar Camouflage FAQs

What are Scars?

Your skin is a protective covering that is built from collagen fibers that are configured in a very structured manner.  When you injure your skin, though, new collagen fibers cover the injury in a very chaotic pattern, and the result is a new scar.

Are There Different Types of Scars?

Depending on your skin type and the extent of the injury or surgery, you may develop one of four types of scars.  Keloids are most common in people with darker skin types.  These scars appear as raised scars that cover an area that is greater than the original injury.  When you burn your skin, the resulting scar is known as a “contracture scar.”  Contracture scars are formed when your skin tightens to protect the injured area.  In severe burn cases, contracture scars can limit mobility and affect the underlying muscles and nerves.  Hypertrophic scars are red in color and are slightly raised above the surface of your skin, and acne scars range from deep pits to scars with irregular shapes.

What is the treatment for Scar Removal?

Scars never completely go away, but skin needling and camouflage can be used to reduce the size and shape of the scars to help you feel more confident about your appearance.  The benefit to treating the scars with skin needling and camouflage is that you experience little to no discomfort, and you can return to your normal activities shortly after treatment.

Is the Scar Removal procedure uncomfortable?

Most patients remain comfortable during the procedure with only a topical numbing agent. After your procedure, you may experience a mild discomfort that lasts only a few days. During healing it can feel similar to the healing of a light sunburn.

What areas of the body can you treat?

Scar removal laser and radiofrequency treatments are safe and effective for most of the locations where you may have a scar, including your legs, hands, face, torso, abdomen and thighs.  The best way to find out if scar removal laser treatments are right for you is to schedule a consultation with About Face And Body.  They will examine your scar and discusses your treatment options to help you make an informed decision.

What is the cost of Scar Removal?

The cost of any procedure varies from patient to patient dependent on the level of correction that is needed.  All of our fees will be discussed with you during your consultation and package pricing is offered.  You will find our fees to be very fair and competitive for the Orlando area. Be sure to check our website for current specials.

Is there any downtime involved?

Most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure.  You should always use a high SPF sunscreen after your scar removal treatment and you will be given a complete list of post-care instructions.

How many treatments are required?

Each scar revision and camouflage treatment is unique to the patient and it will take a series of treatments at 6 to 8 week intervals to achieve the desired result.  During your consultation, they will discuss your treatment plan, including the number of sessions we recommend for your best possible outcome.

Who is a good candidate for Scar Removal?

Any individual who desires an improvement in the appearance of their stretch marks is a candidate. Certain conditions and skin typing may impact the treatment options that can be safely used and pre-treatment care may be required to prepare the skin.  At About Face And Body, we provide our clients with the highest level of care using the most advanced techniques and procedures available.
